Search4Local’s Charity Bake Sale

A Close Up Of Cupcakes With Sprinkles On A Blue Background

Table of Contents

Last month, our team enjoyed one of our favourite in-office events: a charity bake sale. Every so often, we arrange a snack table with a selection of home-baked treats, hand made by members of the Search4Local team.

From our content team to our SEO department, we’ve been impressed by the variety of star bakers we have working for us. Such office favourites of the past have included sausage rolls, Biscoff brownies, Malteser traybakes, and chocolate chip cookies. We’ve also had Marmite flapjacks as a controversial, yet surprisingly popular contender! Plus, we also engaged in practical research to try and resolve a longstanding office debate over the differences between cheese twists and cheese straws.

Supporting The Bobby Moore Fund

All of the proceeds we gain from our bake sales are donated to worthy causes. Charities we’ve supported include FORCE Cancer Charity and CoLab Exeter. For our latest sale, all donations went towards the Bobby Moore Fund as part of Cancer Research’s Football Shirt Friday. The proceeds will go to supporting the latest bowel cancer research. This includes:

  • Clinical Trials Units (CTU) from Leeds. Experts are gathering a vast collection of data from bowel cancer patients, identifying and reducing inequalities in care, whilst finding ways to recognise symptoms earlier on, improving survival rates.
  • Genetic research from the CRUK Oxford Centre, where scientists are reviewing how errors in genes are linked to an increased risk of the disease. With a greater understanding of this correlation, researchers will be better equipped to tackle bowel cancer cases in the future.
  • Researchers of Belfast are studying how bowel cancer can hijack normal processes within the body to create energy and grow. This process can lead to resistance to chemotherapy, making treatment less effective. With more funding, teams will be able to find new ways of predicting who may not respond to such treatments and develop alternative options.

How Much Did We Raise?

With an incredible turnout of sweet and savoury bakes, we’ve managed to raise £297.75 (including Gift Aid).

The Search4Local team would like to extend a special thanks to all of our contributors, including organisers, bakers and donators. All of the proceeds are going towards a brilliant cause, and we couldn’t be prouder of our team for stepping up and doing their bit to help. We look forward to seeing what will show up on the next menu, and can’t wait to support another fantastic charity.
